Everyone has at some time wanted something desperately, but for some reason, it never happened. We set goals, make a solid plan, we write it all down, but none of these things are enough. It can feel like we’re treading water.

So what are we missing?

We may think we want more money, more time, more love, but subconsciously we’re actually telling ourselves something completely different. More often than not our subconsciously thinking is telling us that ‘It’s bad to be wealthy’ or ‘You’re just not good enough to leave your job and start your own business’ or ‘You don’t deserve love’.

We can work our butts off trying to achieve our goals, but unless we believe it’s possible, it simply won’t happen. It’s like banging your head against a brick wall over and over again. Unless we truly believe our goals are within your reach we will continually find ways to sabotage ourself.

In truth, you are what you think and in order to get want you want in life you need to change you mindset first.

There is one incredible technique that I came across 7 years ago that has TRANSFORMED MY LIFE & MY BUSINESS, It’s a technique that has the potential to reshape your thinking so you can achieve anything you want.

And I’d like to share this with you so you can start using it for yourself…

Enjoy!

Sometimes we get swept up in comparisons (aka compare and despair). We look in from the outside at others lives and we think…. she’s thinner than me, she has longer hair than me, she has more sex than me or she earns way more than me.

Ever found yourself doing this?

In the age of social media we have 24-7 access to everyone else’s “highlight reel”, we get to see our friends latest holiday photos to sunny Barbados, we get to see their new uber-cool state-of-the-art kitchen, we get to see their latest designer shoes and we even get to see what they’ve had for their dinner!

It’s so easy to compare ourselves and then feel bad and judge ourselves about where we are based on what we see others doing. It’s exhausting, discouraging and more over, if we’re not careful, it makes us feel totally inadequate.

It’s a losing game however you look at it.

In this month video I clearly show what steps to take to stop comparing yourself to other so that you can live an authentic life and stay true to yourself.

Enjoy!

Do you ever wish your family or friends were more supportive of your goals?
Do you feel alone and unsupported in the world?
Do you feel destined for bigger things?

It takes courage and guts to leave the flock and go your own way, those around you will be skeptical and dubious.

As much as our family and friends love us and care for us, they all have their own opinion and idea about what they think we should or shouldn’t be doing with our life. And this gets in the way and influences us greatly.

But here’s the truth.

People don’t like change! What a surprise eh.

When they see us forging forward and doing big things, it almost highlights their own inaction and inadequacy to change their own life.

And it also scares them, as they may think that the changes you’re making will somehow alter your relationship with them. It can be a bitter pill for them to swallow.

People almost need to see your success before they fully get behind your goal.

So how do you get the support you need in times of change and uncertainty?

Take a look at this month’s video. Enjoy.
The kids have returned to school and 2013 has officially begun in the Turner household.

I’ve had almost three long weeks off and I have to say going back to the routine has been a bit of a wrench.

We’ve had many idle days by the fire watching old movie re-runs.

We’ve eaten our way through a mountain of naughty food, and even created the lovely new habit of sleeping in the afternoons. To be totally honest, there were many days we didn’t even make it out of our pajamas!

It was just what we all needed after a crazy year. To do nothing.

2012 turned out to be the busiest of my entire life.

We launched into 2012 full steam ahead with our house on the market. Our beautiful little cottage had served us well for over 12 years, but we were literally bursting out of every nook and cranny. We needed a bigger house. We needed space. Throughout January and February our weekends were exhausted hiding dirty washing under cushions and spraying air fresher as we opened the doors to a host of sour-faced, and nosey buyers. Never again! All those Monday mornings waiting tentatively for an offer to come in.

As spring rolled around, my first published book ‘Finding a Future That Fits’ hit the shelves across the UK. A moment I had been anticipating for over a year. Media requests, radio interviews, photo shoots soon followed, all very glamorous. I was certainly riding a high and exhilarating wave.

The months surged on. By June our house sale was complete and we were all packed up and ready to move to our new eco home. Then the news hit that our buyer had been taken ill and diagnosed with the big C. Consequently the sale fell through just one week before we were all supposed to move. We were devastated of course for our buyers and also gutted that we would potentially lose our dream home.

Fortunately it wasn’t long before another buyer presented himself (turned out to be our neighbour of ten years) and quickly things were back on and we moved in exactly six weeks from the original date. Talk about stressful.

As late summer arrived, and Olympic fever took hold, my hubby and I celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary. I also prepared for the biggest stage gig of my life, the Hay House ‘I Can Do It’ conference at Glasgow’s SECC where I took stage to over 1000 people!

To round the year off, I found myself in New York caught up in Hurricane Sandy, the most terrifying experience of my life.

So many lessons learnt in 2012.

It wasn’t a bad year, on the contrary, but it was certainly the most full on we’d ever experienced!

As December approached and the focus turned towards the arrival of Santa, the infamous nativity play and whether to have turkey or pork, I found myself feeling very flat and burnt out. I had no desire to write, plan, create, or even switch on my computer, I’d had enough. Both my body and mind needed a serious rest.

As I reviewed my year I realized that I hadn’t had any downtime whatsoever. Each month bought something new to contend with. There was simply no time to indulge in the simple pleasures of life.

Moreover, my toenails spent most of the summer unpainted!

Where had all the fun gone?

So as I kick start into the New Year, I find myself with an unusually small goal list for 2013. No real big goals, no trying to conquer the world, no sky diving or trying to climb K2.

My focus is to simply have more fun. That’s it. Fun. More laughing. More time watching the clouds, more time talking to my children, more time dancing around my living room, more bubblegum flavored ice-cream, more pajama days, more afternoon naps, more kissing, more playing Hungry Hippos, more reading, more getting messy, more time sitting on my mum’s sofa, more time drinking wine with my best buddies (if they remember who I am, that is). And more nail painting!

I want to be ‘present’ in my life this year. And yes, I will of course work on my business, I will continue to write and do all the things that inspire and drive me, but I intend to make time to play too.

There are times in our life when we are harvesting and there are times when we are sowing. There are times when the universe requires us to make big changes and get off our butt and there are times when it says ‘Slow down girl’.

My question to myself is this.

‘How do I want to feel this year?’ Rather than, ‘What do I want to achieve?’

I want to feel free

I want to feel balance and harmony

I want to feel creative

I want to feel more love.

We can generate these feelings by simply following our joy and doing the simple stuff we love. It’s really that simple. Big goal or small joy, we still generate the same feeling.

So whether you’re in a year of harvesting or sowing, ask yourself how do I want to feel this year? What do I need to do in order to create this feeling?

Time to paint those nails I think. Hummmm… pink or red?

With love and best wishes for the New Year.

We think we’ll be happy when we’ve sorted everything out – the new job, the DIY, paperwork, the new kitchen and so on.

We think that we’ll somehow be more contented when we’ve discovered our purpose, won a million or retired somewhere warm and sunny.

We are consistently on a treadmill striving for more, better, more, better!

There is of course no doubt that achieving our goals and endeavors brings a great sense of satisfaction and achievement.

It feels great. But the high doesn’t last long and before too long our attention has turned to yet another goal we must attain in order to feel happy

The cycle continues.

As a writer, coach and mentor, setting goals is at the very core of my business, yet when we’re too goal-focused, we lose sight of the simple pleasures and miss the miracles that life has to offer.

I’d like to open up a totally new approach to the coming year.

My approach is simple. Follow your joy.

Rather than setting yourself a myriad of unattainable and quite frankly draining goals, how about making your sole purpose this year to simply indulge in the things that bring you pleasure in life?

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, a psychologist from the University of Chicago, studied thousands of people to discover what makes our lives meaningful and satisfying. From his research he wrote a book called Flow – which he describes as a narrowing of attention, a sense of being absorbed and a feeling of transcendence. Anything can lead to flow and joy, playing a game, listening to music, reading a romantic novel, cooking new recipes, tinkering on your classic car, digging in the soil, playing with your grandkids, dancing, having coffee with your best friend, sitting in the beauty of your garden. But it must be an activity that you adore.

One of my clients found that by listening to her favourite music each evening after work significantly altered her mood. Within just a week she felt calmer, happier and was more inspired with new ideas. Her whole family started to notice a change in her demeanor. This one small change greatly improved my client’s overall wellbeing and happiness.

When we find our flow, when we follow our joy, we are truly living a happy, full and more meaningful life. It really isn’t about achieving huge goals, having a million in the bank or finding the love of our life. Our primary focus must be to simply pursue our joy right now. Don’t wait for someone or something to complete you, because it never will.

So my message is this. Enjoy the small pleasures that life has to offer, rather than waiting to achieve some far-out goal.

Your happiness is closer than your think.

Time for action!

List ten things you really love to do that put you in a state of flow (from playing with your dog, reading a great novel, playing the guitar, and baking cupcakes or playing your favorite sport).

Here are some clues when you know you’re in flow:

• You are drawn to doing these activities when you have any spare time

• You feel great once you’ve done them

• They make you really content and happy

• You lose all sense of time

• They are things you wish you had more time to do given the opportunity

Make it your intention to find your flow and follow your joy this year and watch the miracles unfold. Enjoy.

Wishing you all a fabulous 2013.

My daughter came home from school a few Monday’s back super excited. School was running a Children In Need competition with a whole host of Pudsey Bear prizes on offer, from mugs, hair bands to sweets.

But Esme had her eye on the top prize, a rather special cuddly Pudsey Bear that sat pride of place on the piano in the school hall. This was total torment for my daughter, as she has an absolute obsession with anything soft and cuddly.

Each morning she’d file into assembly and Pudsey would hypnotise her with his cute squishy face and big beady eyes. She wanted him – badly!

We all know what it’s like to want something really badly eh, the shoes, the job, the man?

So one night after school she came home and emptied all her piggy banks so that she could buy herself a raffle ticket. In fact, she decided to up her game and buy a ticket for herself and a ticket for her brother too. Ulterior motive or what! She was convinced that she could win Pudsey. In her mind, a ticket equalled winning. She 100% believed that Pudsey would be hers! Little did she know that there would be 250 other children also wanting to win Pudsey.

Now as a mother, this left me in a quandary. I didn’t want her to be disappointed if she didn’t win; yet I didn’t want to destroy her faith either. Bearing in mind, I teach my clients how to co create and manifest their reality!

On the morning of the big prize draw I was making her bed and found a note under her pillow that read ‘Dear God and the Angels, please can I win Pudsey Bear, I really want to take him home and will take good care of him, thank you so much, Esme xxx’.

Now I have to be honest, this left me really worried. Her chances of winning were rather slim. Did I prep her and explain that maybe someone else possibly might win?

For me, having faith in a power beyond yourself is vitally important, this is how I live my life and how I bring up my children, but we all know that we don’t always get what we want in life and sometimes life throws us a shit sandwich. But in a seven-year-old’s pink fluffy world, you want them to believe everything is possible, for as long as possible.

I wasn’t about to burst her bubble. I would just deal with the tears and disappointment when it came.

The long and short of this story is this.

She won Pudsey!

Out of 250 tickets sold, she won him! She came home beaming from ear-to-ear with a new edition to the Turner family!

Talk about manifesting!

Herein lies a clear message. Maybe it’s us who are the doubters; maybe it is us who questions that our desires can be manifest? Maybe it’s us who doubts that the universe has our back?

I’m embarrassed to say that I doubted she could win. But she didn’t.

The universe is constantly picking up our requests and bringing them towards us, yet it is us who doubts and repels them from reaching the material world.

Maybe we should all take a leaf from Esme’s note pad and write a letter to our angels?

Just a thought.

With love as always.

So Christmas is nearly here, another year almost over. The crisp frosty mornings, low winter sunshine, the frantic hustle and bustle of the last minute shoppers and of course the frivolity of the annual office Christmas party. It should be a time for looking back at the year gone by, a time of letting go and a time of fun and laughter.

Christmas can be wonderful and exciting. Personally it’s my favourite time of year, but if you’re not careful it can send your stress levels soaring, so here are my best stress-busting tips to get you through the joyous period with a smile on your face.

Get organised! OK, yes, I know you’ve heard it all before and every year you promise yourself you’ll start your Christmas shopping in September and have it all neatly wrapped up and tucked under the tree by December 1st. But in reality you end up on Christmas Eve fighting for a car park space, battling your way through the herds of frenzied shoppers all trying to grab the last turkey from the deserted freezer cabinet. Make a commitment to yourself to get organised NOW and start TODAY. Set a budget for each person you have to buy for and stick to it! Ask your family for a gift list, that way everyone gets what they really want and you can budget in advance. Most importantly, beat the shopping rush; don’t wait until the last minute to buy your gifts. Make this year the year you change the habit of a lifetime.

Shop online. Buy your gifts online or use mail order catalogues saving you time and energy traipsing around the shops, but order early to ensure you receive your presents in good time. You can even order your Christmas food shop online (I do it every year), but again you need to book early in order to reserve your delivery slot.

Earn yourself some extra Christmas pennies. Christmas can be hugely expensive and for many it can leave you paying off the old credit card well into the spring. Why not use the lead up to Christmas to ebay or car boot your unwanted items. What’s hanging around in your loft, cupboards or garage that you can sell? Last week a friend of mine took her unwanted bric-a-brac and old baby toys to a car boot and made a whooping £180! Easy money for a few hours spent on a Sunday morning. Find out when your next car boot sale is and take the opportunity to de-clutter your house of all those items you no longer need. Remember, what’s rubbish to you may be someone else’s treasure.

Treat yourself! If you can’t treat yourself at Christmas then when can you? What can you do this year to look after yourself? How about booking a nice relaxing treatment like a massage or pedicure, or how about having a fun night out with your friends, playing a silly kids game or booking a pantomime? I believe laughter is the best stress reliever of all.

Say NO! Do you find yourself saying ‘Yes’ when you know you really ought to be saying ‘No’? Do you find yourself organising your work Christmas party, whilst spending your evenings making an angel outfit for the school nativity play? If you’re the type that constantly over commits, you need to realise you’re not a superhero! You cannot do it all, and if you try, it’ll be you that suffers in the long run. Learn how to say ‘No’ gracefully and take the weight off your shoulders. Value yourself, because if you don’t, no one else will!

Survive the big day. We tend to get all over-ambitious at Christmas and decide that it’s a great time to dig out the old recipe books and put our culinary skills to the test. This is all very well, but remember, try out new recipes before the big day and keep it simple. Also, remember to delegate to other family members and don’t do everything yourself. Ask your guests/relatives to bring the dessert or starter, get the kids to lay the table, or ask your partner to look after people’s drinks. If you have small children like myself, why not save a special toy or DVD back to occupy them for an hour or so while you are at your busiest? One final word of advice: Don’t drink too much, especially if it’s your job to cook!

And finally…

More importantly than any of these tips above, Christmas is about people coming together, it’s about a time of union, love and laughter. So it really doesn’t matter whether the meat is a little tough this year, or dinner is half an hour late. It doesn’t matter whether the kids don’t get to bed until 10.30pm, or your mother-in-law drives everyone mad. Enjoy the day for what it is, relax and absorb the moment, life is ultimately about being happy, so make this Christmas a happy one! And always, always remember to count your blessings.

Loved this book! Steve Taylor suggests that our normal consciousness is really a kind of ‘sleep’ from which we sometimes ‘wake up’, into a more intense and complete reality. Waking From Sleep provides what is perhaps the first ever clear explanation of higher states of consciousness, or ‘awaking experiences’.

If you’re looking to deepen your spiritual quest, then this book is most certainly worth a read.
